Civil Engineering UMS won 2nd place in the Light Concrete Competition

Malang, 24 August 2019, Doremi CUBE won 2nd place in the Lightweight Concrete Competition with the theme “Eco-Friendly Structural Lightweight Concrete” which took place at the State University of Malang. This team consisted of 3 Civil Engineering students who are also members of the CUBE UMS, Perwita Mas Imbang (2018), Zulhan Rasyid M. (2017) and Dhimas Adha Aji P. (2017) that guided by Mr. Mochammad Solikhin, MT , PhD. This competition was a series of events from the 2019 Civildays activities which are held annually by the Student Association of Civil Engineering Department Universitas Negeri Malang.

 

For the process of becoming a finalist, first, the team made a proposal regarding eco-friendly structural lightweight concrete competition and made a video of mixing concrete that was sent to the competition committee. The team also conducted several trials regarding the mixing of concrete to make comparison mix design to get the best lightweight concrete material innovation. The team used material innovations from fly ash, lightweight brick powder, styrofoam, and pumice stone. After that, the committee selected the proposals that sent by various teams from various universities. Then 7 teams were qualified to continue to the final round. Where the seven finalists came from Universitas Negeri Malang, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Politeknik Negeri Banyuwangi, Universitas Dharma Andalas, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta and 2 teams from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November.

 

For the final round, each team made test objects that tested in the Civil Engineering Laboratory Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang and made presentations to the jury. The technical meeting of this final round was held on August 23, 2019 and the final round was held on August 24, 2019 by testing on the test objects and presenting the presenation to the jury at Civil Engineering Building of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. The 3rd winner was won by the team from Universitas Sebelas Maret, the 2nd winner was won by Doremi CUBE team from Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta and the 1st place was won by the team from the Politeknik Negeri Banyuwangi. Thus the team from UMS defeated the team from the host, Universitas Negeri Malang and Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November. By participating this competition, this team hoped to get new knowledge, experience, and insight of civil engineering, especially concrete for the progress and development of Indonesia.
